President Barack Obama is expected to unveil a sex education initiative in 2020.
The White House is expected later this month to formally announce the program.
The program would focus on topics such as the importance of respecting women’s bodies, including the importance to educate young people about contraception, reproductive health, and STDs.
The president has made clear he does not support legislation that would require teachers to teach sexual consent, which is a violation of the First Amendment.
Obama has said the effort is a continuation of his “strong support for the right of all students to learn and have an education that is appropriate for them, regardless of their sexual orientation or gender identity.”
The president is also expected to take a position on same-sex marriage, which has been a contentious issue among voters and lawmakers.
Obama and other Democrats have proposed passing legislation that could have the effect of legalizing same-gender marriage, but it is not expected to come up for a vote this year.
